"In Box Notify" is a system extension that will monitor a folder for you and report when it contains anything. This is highly useful when using a folder as an "in-box" to receive files or mail across the network. On my Mac, I have set up a folder and assigned privileges so that certain users can mount my "in-box" (ie. folder) on their desktop, then drag anything they want me to look at into the "in-box." As soon as In Box Notify sees something in the folder, it flashes a little icon on the Apple menu to let me know. I then take a look and drag the stuff out of my "in-box." Simple, but powerful!
In addition, if someone is copying a file into your in-box, In Box Notify will wait until the copy is complete before notifying you. This is handy when someone has connected to your network with AppleTalk Remote Access to send you something, or simply if the file being sent is large.
This version has some "shareware reminder" features. When I receive your registration payment, I will send you a copy with these features removed. I find this feature necessary to remind users to pay shareware fees. If the registration response to version 1.1 is good, I will not include the reminder in future versions.
To install In Box Notify, you must perform the following simple steps:
1. Create a folder you wish to use as an in-box.
2. Create an alias of that folder and rename the alias to In Box Notify.
3. Drag the In Box Notify Extension and the In Box Notify alias on top of
the system folder. System 7 will place them in the correct folders for you.
4. Set up the privileges and Users & Groups for your in-box folder if you want.
5. Restart your Macintosh.
Now, to test everything, drag a file or folder into your in-box. Wait a second or two and watch the Apple menu for the flashing icon (also, listen for the notification tone). If it appears, you're all set! If not, check your installation and try again. When you remove all files and folders from the in-box, the Apple menu will cease to flash (it may take a second or two).
In Box Notify is a background-only application, which means it is more stable than the standard "patch the system" type of extension (ie. INIT).
In Box Notify is a Shareware product. As such, you may try it for 15 days. If, after that period, you decide it is worth the Shareware fee of $10, please send a check to:

There are many interesting additions that could be made to In Box Notify. If I receive enough registrations, I will be upgrading it.
